Special means of transport

Lößnitzgrundbahn (narrow-gauge railway)

The steam-powered Radebeul-Radeburg line (known locally as the Lößnitzgrundbahn) has been travelling from Radebeul through the picturesque Lößnitzgrund valley to Radeburg since 1884. A special highlight along the route is the baroque hunting lodge in Moritzburg.

Weißeritztalbahn (narrow-gauge railway)

From 1882 until the summer of 2002, the Weißeritztalbahn carried out a regular service from Freital. The impressions from before the flood are also the vision for the future.

Standseilbahn (funicular railway)

The funicular railway in Dresden started its service at the end of the 19th century. Just as it does today, it connected the Weißer Hirsch district, with its villas high above the River Elbe, with the city down along the river.

Schwebebahn (suspension railway)

The first suspension railway in the world astounded its passengers on its maiden voyage in 1901. Today, visitors to Dresden are just as impressed as they were back then.

Kirnitzschtalbahn (tram)

There where you would least expect it – right in the middle of a fascinating landscape – there is a tram line. Since 1898 the tram has been bringing hikers, tourists and health spa visitors from Bad Schandau into the Saxon Switzerland National Park right up until its final stop at the Lichtenhain waterfall.

Meißen City Bus

Saxony’s history began more than 1000 years ago in Meißen. The evidence of this history and the first European porcelain production site, many of which can be seen when doing a tour of the city in the City Bus, make the city a fascinating place to visit.

Steam ferry „Wehlen-Bastei”

There is no more impressive and highly individual way to travel Saxon Switzerland than on the ferry steamer „Wehlen-Bastei” which was built in 1925.
