Semestertickets – for students
Our ticket for students: the Semesterticket. Here you can find out when and on what lines the Semesterticket can be used, what you can take with you and what you have to consider when catching a connecting bus or train.
The SemesterTicket is subject to the current VVO Regulations and Rules on Tariffs, together with special contractual regulations contained in the SemesterTicket agreement with the student councils and the constituted student bodies ("Vereinbarung zum SemesterTicket mit den StudentInnenräten und den verfassten StudentInnenschaften").
Student ID as your SemesterTicket
Depending on the institution the student is enrolled in, the SemesterTicket is either:
- the valid student ID card or
- the student ID card with an additional SemesterTicket.
Not valid for travel
SemesterTickets (student ID cards) which
- are stamped „ungültig als SemesterTicket“ (not valid as a SemesterTicket) or
- have unauthorised changes or alterations or
- are laminated,
are not valid as travel documents.
In such cases, the student will be treated as a customer travelling without a valid ticket, in accordance with the VVO Rules on Tariffs.
Personal validity
The SemesterTicket is only valid in conjunction with a valid identity card. Instead of an ID card, students from non-European states require a customer card issued by the student council and/or the Matriculation Office of the institution where the student is learning.
Temporal validity
The SemesterTicket is valid throughout the overall period of validity (1 August 2009 to 30 September 2011) depending on institution as follows:

Special means of transport in the VVO area are
- Mountain railways in Dresden (operated by DVB AG),
- Kirnitzschtalbahn in Bad Schandau (operated by OVPS, headquarters in Pirna),
- City-Bus in Meißen (operated by VGM) and
- the Weißeritztalbahn and Lößnitzgrundbahn (operated by SDG with branch in Moritzburg);
The SemesterTicket only allows students to use these special means of transport if they can produce certification or their SemesterTicket is specially annotated. This certification is issued by the VVO partner company which operates the special means of transport concerned, provided the student can show that they are resident within the catchment area of the above-listed special means of transport (within 800m of the stop; in the case of the mountain railways this only applies to the mountain stations).
Purchase of tickets for connecting trips

Taking along a bicycle or dog
Each SemesterTicket entitles the holder to take one bicycle or one dog free of charge during the following periods:
- on all means of public transport Mon to Fri, 7.00 pm to 4.00 am;

- on ferries where the VVO tariff applies, all day.
For the transportation of bicycles outside the times given above, the Bicycle Transportation Rule applies, in accordance with the VVO tariff (Para. 9, section 2), and is the same as for one-day tickets (the reduced fare single ticket for one fare stage is valid for up to 2 tariff zones, the reduced fare single ticket for two fare stages is valid for 3 or more tariff zones, in each case only on day of validation).
If travelling with a dog outside the times given above, the VVO tariff applies without restriction (Para. 9, section 3)
For the frequently transportation of a cycle or a dog (not both at once) on local transport, a monthly bicycle travel pass is recommended in accordance with VVO fares.
