Barrier-free by bus & rail

More information

Severely disabled passengers are carried free of charge if they have a valid severe disability pass and the social services form with a valid stamp

Passengers with restricted mobility ought to be able to be as mobile as any other passenger. Barriers are being removed from more and more stops and stations in the VVO area. We are working to provide you with increased barrier-free mobility. You sometimes need to register your journey in advance if you want to be sure that you have barrier-free access to the trams, railways and buses of the transport companies in the VVO.

Here you will find the contact details for the transport companies concerned, and details of when you need to pre-register your journey by:

Using trains

S-Bahn Dresden

Many stations have a free-of-charge service to help passengers with disabilities and restricted mobility get on and off. Tell the S-Bahn Dresden Mobility Service about your journey at least 30 minutes before you leave, or 20 minutes in the case of the Dresden Hauptbahnhof und Dresden-Neustadt stations. Tell the member of staff over the phone what the nature of your restricted mobility is, where you want to get on, when you want to leave, where you are going, and give them your phone number.

RB / RE der Mitteldeutschen Regiobahn (MRB)

On Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (MRB) trains, retractable steps make it easier for you to board. At some stations you can even board from platform level. If that cannot be done, folding ramps can be used. As there is always a guard on the trains who will be prepared to help, you can let us know up to one day in advance but it is not essential to do so. You can let us know about your journey in advance by contacting:

trilex (RB), trilexExpress (RE)

Low-floor vehicle design enables passengers to simply roll on and off at many platforms. Wheelchair users and people travelling with baby buggies can make use of a ramp at many stations (350 kg load capacity). Vehicles have a disabled toilet.

Passengers who need help to get on or off our vehicles, please get in touch at least 1 working day before your journey. This particularly applies if you are travelling in a group. You can let us know about your journey in advance by contacting:

Using trams

Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG

To make it easier for passengers to get on, only low-floor vehicles now operate in the Dresden urban area. Each vehicle has a ramp at the first passenger door which enables wheelchair users to get on and off at almost any stop.

We are continuing to increase the number of stops which have a guide system for the blind and a high kerb. Wheelchair users can usually get on and off the tram without a ramp. With only a few exceptions, all the stops in the inner city area are barrier-free. DVB AG vehicles show which stops are barrier-free (a wheelchair symbol or an asterisk "*" by the name of the stop).

Registering your tram journey in advance is not necessary. If you need help, or if you would like to travel as a group, please contact Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG.

Using buses

Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG

In recent years, to make boarding easier, all the buses in our fleet have been replaced by low-floor vehicles which also have a kneeling system (tips sideways) and a ramp. This means that wheelchair users can get on and off the buses at around 80 % of stops.
